Steve Jobs’s real ( i.e biological sister ) is Mona E. Simpson (born Mona Jandali). Mona Simpson is an American author and currently serving as a professor of English at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the Sadie Samuelson Levy Professor in Languages and Literature at Bard College.
Mona Jandali was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1957 to 23-year-old married graduate students Joanne Carole Schieble and Abdulfattah “John” Jandali, who had met at the University of Wisconsin.
She did not know that Steve Jobs was her long lost brother until 25, when she was living in New York City and working for a small literature magazine.
One day lawyer called her and informed her that she had a rich and famous long-lost brother that she didn’t know she had.
In her eulogy for Steve Jobs, Simpson reflected…
The lawyer refused to tell me my brother’s name and my colleagues started a betting pool. The leading candidate: John Travolta. I secretly hoped for a literary descendant of Henry James — someone more talented than I, someone brilliant without trying. Even as a feminist, my whole life I’d been waiting for a man to love, who could love me. For decades, I’d thought that man would be my father. When I was 25, I met that man and he was my brother.
When Jobs tracked down Joanne Schieble Simpson, his biological mother, she told him that Mona Simpson was his biological sister. The siblings met for the first time in 1985. Mona Simpson fondly remembers
When I met Steve, he was a guy my age in jeans, Arab- or Jewish-looking and handsomer than Omar Sharif
The two developed a close friendship, keeping their relationship secret until 1986, when Simpson introduced Jobs as her brother at her book party for her first novel, Anywhere But Here. The two became inseparable and forged a strong relationship. Steve Jobs regularly visited his sister in Manhattan. Simpson said,
My brother and I are very close, I admire him enormously.
In 1993, Simpson married the television writer and producer Richard Appel and they had two children together by the name of Gabriel Simpson and Grace Simpson. They later divorced.
Mona Simpson now lives in Santa Monica with her two children.
