Angry Birds, the most popular game ever on the iOS (iphone, iPad) platform has now landed on the Windows Phone 7 platform. Rovio mobile, the creators of the Angry Birds game, released the game for $2.99 (USD) on the Windows 7 app marketplace.
As with the other versions, the Windows version also comes with a free version featuring a few ‘teaser’ levels of the game.
In case you haven’t played it yet (shame on you!) Angry birds is a very addictive game that lets users slingshot angry birds through a series of obstacles to attack and destroy pigs. The game features amazing graphics and uses laws of physics to make the obstacles and the pigs breaks, explore and collapse on top of one another.
What Took Angry Birds So Long?
It has taken for ever for Angry Birds to arrive onto the Windows Phone 7 platform. Last fall, Microsoft has a page on it’s Windows Phone 7 website that also featured an Angry Birds icon, hinting at the game coming to windows phone handsets with the Windows 7 launch.
Rovio, the game creators, however, quickly tweeted that they had never “committed to doing a Windows Phone 7 version” of Angry Birds. Rovio added that “Microsoft put the Angry Birds icon on their site without our permission.”
In response to that, Microsoft stated that the Angry Birds icon was mistakenly added to their site, and took down the angry bird icon immediately.
Microsoft initially said the game would ship in May of this year, though that date was later pushed back to June 29 (today). As of Tuesday night, the game was already available for download in the Windows Phone’s marketplace.
